Shot late yesterday afternoon, this guy's been around awhile..
I know how he feels :-]
F/6.3, 1/3200th, ISO 800, Canon 1D Mark III, 300mm f/2.8 lens. Clear & sunny. Less than 20% crop from the original, & 12-15 feet from subject.

Instantly knew this was yours by the thumbnail (an impressive feat on this site!). Another great cardinal flight shot, I won't be surprised if/when this wins another competition. Was this another setup or just really good timing on your part?

Cool side lighting here, Howard and I like the landing pose and raggedy condition of the plumage. It gives the bird a lot of character. :toast:

Great capture on this one Howard! Like the motion blur of the wins and the extended feet and legs.

This is nice Howard. Nice shot of this bird in what appears to be a landing pose. This bird definately needs to molt in some nice new feathers, but I like the ragged appearance. I like the comp, but find myself wanting a better look at the bird's eye and sharper feet as my eye is drawn to them as they reach for the landing spot.

Great title and I like your sense of humor.

I think the plumage does add a lot of interest to this. What is loses in sleek beauty it makes up for with character. (I guess we all claim that too)

Love the landing pose Howard. Also the spread of the wings, fanned tail, and how the feet appear to be ready to grip a perch.

Condition of the plumage doesn't bother me, I like seeing them in all phases. The birds here get to see how ratty I can look after a long morning of photography though I must admit I looked far worse after sand-crawling in FL!

With the shutter speed you had I might have tried this with a dof at f9. Congrats on the great timing.

Excellent position of the bird, a shot not easy to see.
You nailed subject, and the OOF wing and tail suggest movement. Well done.

I think it's an interesting image Howard. The side light gave great texture on the right wing even though it's a bit OOF. The pose and intensity on landing get my attention and I don't mind at all the less than perfect attire.

I'd be quite happy to get a shot in this style. It looks very nice to me as posted.
