I was pleased to have found this little guy flying about the Ridgefield NWR in Washington State this past week. This is a fairly aggressive crop, as the bird was several hundred feet across the field looking for a meal. In fact he had just dispatched a mouse and was flying off toward another opportunity when I captured this image.

A special thanks to Ron Dudley for his assistance with this shot.

Thanks for taking time to view the image, and for your comments and critiques.

A great takeoff shot and I love the blood on the talons. The larger version suffers a bit in quality (my guess is because of the crop) but still a fine action shot.

Nice action conveyed in this image. From that distance I think it is a fine photo. Lucky you to have seen this.

I like this shot a lot especially the wing position, and I also like how the color of the BG complements the color of the bird. Very nicely captured!

Chuck, I like this take off pose, the curled and bloody talon and the light on the hawk. Good job locking on to the bird with it that far away and so close to the background. Exposure looks good. I do think there's some loss of IQ in the larger version due to the large crop but that's to be expected and you handled it as well as you could.

cool shot, Chuck! Very nice pose and setting. I like the comp as well. I agree that the larger version shows the crop, but it is still a sweet action shot.

Great pose and composition, Charles. I can see the effects of the crop in the larger version, but still a very cool image. I really like the palette. :toast:

Chuck,

This is a great pose, I love the dangling talons, the setting and the lovely natural colors & light. The IQ did suffer some from the large crop though. Neat action shot.

Large view looks very good despite the crop, nice job on PP Charles.
Great POV and flight pose, is that a small chunk of meat on it's talon?
Well done :toast:

Sweet take off pose Chuck, I like how you placed the bird in the frame, it works well considering your crop. I'm glad you had some success there, did you find many other subjects? :toast:
