Fractals Final

Based on Pat's comments on this image I did a google on Nic filters and then downloaded a trial version. Pretty cool stuff, although not yet fully compatible with CS5 so I loaded it into CS3 (with some help from them on how to do that).

I reworked this image using the Nic B&W converter which lets one protect the highlights so they don't get blown out in the process. Then, just playing around, I found the Neutralize Whites filter and used it too. This is the resulting image which I quite like. It has that "snowflake" quality that I was looking for.

I am quickly gaining a new appreciation for the importance of the process in producing the final product.

The small version has major compression issues so pleas look at the large one.

Comments greatly appreciated

Peter

Striking improvement for my tastes Peter. Superb detail, crisp complementary bg and the detail in the outer petals is much sharper and improved. Love the image. Should be on the cover of a discrete mathematics book.

"Should be on the cover of a discrete mathematics book."

One of my sons teaches mathematics and that was his comment. He plans to use the image in his classroom.

I like the fact that the highlights are no longer as blown out, but the dark center looks a lot muddier, and thats what I liked most about your first post.

Snowflake indeed! I did not see the first image, but this one is beautifully crafted, Peter. The whites look great and I like the diagonal placement of the stem. :toast:

Oh, this is great, Peter! Only suggestion would be to consider doing away with what looks like blurred foliage in the lrc. Otherwise, stellar and very appealing image.
