Green Heron Position A

Canon 7D With EF 500mm F4 and 1.4 tc
1/250 sec, F 7.1, ISO 500 From Tripod

After waiting and watching for several weeks my local green heron finally assumed Position A. I would love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly on this shot.

Thanks for looking and fire away!

Michael,

I love the setting, it is the kind of place I would expect to find this species. I love the barnacle on the boulder, the prey in the bill and the pose of the heron too.

I like the fish in the bill and as oyu know I'm a fan of the habitat but this is not one of your sharpest images from what you shave shown me. Eventhough you were shooting off a tripod, the location of the photo probably meant it wasn't on totally stable ground and resulted in a touch of movement.

I also think you can tone down some of those highlights on the neck and face

The bird is nice and the setting wonderful Michael. The barnacle on the rock is a nice touch. I think sharpness is acceptable here though I would agree with Luke's point.

I really like the habitat and pose, Michael. I'm not sure what the light was like, but this feels a bit oversaturated to me. There also seems to be a fair amount of noise in both the bg and the bird. It's a beautiful habitat image. :toast:

I like the setting a lot - plenty of interesting textures and lines and shapes. I like the position of the heron.

The light is interesting and seems to be coming almost from below the heron.

I have no issue with noise anywhere in the image.

I might move the black point to make the shadows a little deeper.

I like the position and the fact that he's got something, but I think its a tad overexposed, and the BG is a little busy to clearly see that he's got something.
