Cascade Cliche

I know silky waterfalls are terribly cliched but I love shooting them anyway. This little waterfall is the inlet to one of the Macey Lakes in Colorado's Sangre de Christo Wilderness.

I thought this was too tight in the lower left corner so I cropped a bit off the right side to compensate. The larger version is uncropped.

Shen Hao PTB 4x5, forgot which lens, Velvia 50

Cliched for a reason, they are beautiful. This works for me in every way. Prefer the crop.

The silky-water genre may be common, but you still have to compose it well to work, and in that regard, this is very successful. The diagonal water sure works as does the colors and textures. Very nice image.

Mark,

I'd say this silky water is quite dreamy and I think this is a beautiful image. I'm a little more practical when it comes to thinking silky water is a cliche. You're shooting LF film at asa 50. Probably at least f/32 and somewhere around EV10? By default your exposure is going to be long. So often times (not all the time,) it's more a matter of design than choice.... End of soap box.

I think you did great with the colors, although I do see a little remnants of a Velvia feature, with the blue-ish/purple cast in water. But it looks like you mitigated that pretty well and I like this image very much.

I think this is stunning Mark. You nailed the exposure with the Velvia and still brought out wonderful detail throughout. As far as the silky water goes, I think it works very well and wouldn't feel apologetic at all. Your composition is excellent, the color looks superb. Beautiful work.
