Here's another shot I've had converted for NPN but not quite sure of its worth. To me it seem as though I couldn't get it sharp or detailed enough. Maybe a job for stacking images but I don't have that software.

Canon 7D on tripod, 100mm macro, Aperture priority, 1/25 sec, F/16, +1/3 exposure comp, ISO 800. Windy conditions.

Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed.

The concept is good - the stamen (or are they pistils, I can't remember) against the OOF petals, all different shades of the same color. The stamen just don't seem to be sharp enough, especially the top of the tallest one. I expect it's out side the plane of sharp focus, but perhaps it's movement.

Hi John,

I think your effort is worth while. You were shooting under difficult circumstances at 1/25th of a second. I'm sure some, if not all of the lack of sharpness, comes from the wind.

Try again.

Cheers,

Carol

I like this image. It would've been better with some more sharpness, but keeping the shooting conditions in mind, it's a very good attempt. Love those colors!

For windy conditions, this is great, John. I tried same yesterday, and it sure tried my patience! Left me with few keepers, but it was great practice. Going for more speed with wider aperture sometimes helps.... Anyway, love the color and comp, especially how the opposing lines of the petals and the stamens work together. It's a strong image aside from the sharpness (windy conditions) issue. The intended pof is perfect and I like the soft glow in the llc.

John, really like the color and composition, I read the other comments about the sharpness, but it looks fine to me. Well done.

I do like the rich color, and maybe someone here could give a tip for increasing sharpness along edges which would make this even stronger. Still fairly nice as is.

John,

I like the color and the light in this. I think the problem for me, to the extent that there is one, is that the composition seems static to me. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't grab my attention. Sharper anthers would help in that regard but I think only some, at least for my tastes.

John: I think you managed the DOF very well here. I think where the comp may fall down a bit is the mergers of some of the anthers which is a tough situation with day lilies. I usually look hard at my potential subjects and look for more separated anthers or even manipulate them some so there is space between them. I do like the subject and colors. Nicely done. >=))>

John, I was about to say what Bill said. Just looking around the center of the flower for that angle where anthers are separated is what I do. Of course some flowers will have to be passed by.

Love the strong yellowish orange tones and the contrast provided by the blacks in the anthers. Good Work

John, I really like the comp and color. I see what you mean about the lack of sharpness, but I'd attribute that to the conditions.

John:
I like your comp here and the POV especially the pastel soft BG. I don't think stacking is going to help unless you open your aperture (F8) and higher SS and get several sharp images. With regard to stacking software, you can use "combine ZM' which is a freeware for stacking.
