Past and Present

One of the highest bristlecone in this area, and it is living a very solitary existence. It continues to be sculpted by the wind, which was blowing quite strong on this morning. The last generation trunk is a lasting reminder of the harshness of life at this exposure and altitude.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Beautiful juxtaposition in magical light. An quiet and powerful image to contemplate.

Morris I love this image the dead stump in the FG and the dying tree in the distance. Well conceived photo. :toast:

Morris,

Great nature story. The visual contrast and juxtaposition of the past and present is beautifully captured. And you were blessed with a great sky and light. No nits or suggestions from me.

Great color and exposure control here. I particularly like the way the overarching bristlecone moves the eye around and back into the scene. I do wonder what this would look like with the fg stump slightly off-center and a little more to the left. Other than that thought this more than works for me... very nice!

This is really quite wonderful. Love the light and the story told of both the harshness of nature and that life clings to survive. :toast:

I like the layers of this photo. In addition, the contrast between foreground dead tree stub and lonely living tree, providing me impression of harsh condition of the environment.

I like how the foreground and the tree are lined up. If you could have gotten a bit more separation from the cloud and tree that would have been less distracting but overall I like this image very much.

Superb Morris. Love the composition with the contrast of the two trees and the unwritten story they tell, and the light is wonderful. Love it.

Beautiful location shot. I like the early (or late) lighting, the clouds, and the distant mtn ridges. The sky really makes the shot.

Morris, I was looking at the tree in this image and the one on RMNP. Both have some really nice light on the trunks and the foreground. Did you use a fill flash of some sort or were you just getting a lot of ambient light? Both beautiful shots!

Thanks again to you all for your time to comment!
Dean, it was all natural ambient lighting, no flash was used. Just one of those times when it was strong enough for the landscape, but not overpowering the sky. It is a single exposure as well. I wish I could get this kind of light every time I go out!
