Owl Sunset

Verreaux's Eagle Owl just after sunset in Tsavo East National Park.
Lucky to see this one - the colours of the sky were gorgeous and there was nothing in view to distract from the dead tree the owl was sitting on.

Nikon D300
Nikkor AF-S 300mm f2,8 VR
bean bag (shot from car)
ISO 500
f2,8
1/800

Thanks all very much for the nice comments! :wavey:

I really like the composition of this image. The lines draw me through the image. The colors are very peaceful with the soft pastels. The pinks in the eyelids of the owl, match the sunset colors.

Ingrid, you're right about the simple lines here. It's what makes this so powerful, that and the subtle colors. Lovely image.

Beautiful combination of sunset and owl! Each would have been very nice on it's own but the two together are very unique and extraordinary.

The colors and composition here are very attractive, Ingrid. I like that the owl is not just a silhouette too: we can see details. :toast:

Lovely image, Ingrid. I like the almost silhouette quality of this image. I might have taken a touch off the bottom and the right, but I like the composition as-is too. :toast:

Just awesome colors and the color on the owl is out of this world. Beautiful composition as well.

Sublime! I love the composition and colours in this. (What an amazing bird - I thought only my daughter would wear eye shadow like that....)
