Sinopah Sleeps

by Ron Richins

Gallery: LandscapePosted August 16, 2010456 views28 comments
I finally got a nice evening without any wind; I guess Sinopah went to bed early. Since the intent of the image was to show the clarity of the water and colorful rocks, I used a polarizer to cut the reflection. (For the horizontal shot--which I'll post later--I cut the polarizer, showing the interesting patterns from the cloud reflections.)

Canon 5D2
Canon 17-40 f/4
Blend of 2 exposures for light.

These are some impressive stone colors here. The center composition works well and I like that there are just enough clouds up there to keep the sky interesting.

Beautiful scene here, particularly with the colors throughout the sky and foreground. The foreground does seem a bit bright to me, and perhaps a slight boost in the dark tones would resolve that.

Stunning image, Ron! A worthy addition to your excellent portfolio. I especially like the foreground rocks. These colorful pebbles were some of the first things to draw my eye on my first visit to Glacier years ago. Makes me really want to go back.

Nice shot, though i prefer to crop the top 1/4 of the sky this will keep the focus on the rocks plus the mount in distance.

That's some serious eye candy from top to bottom. A real beauty for sure.

Beautiful composition. The combination of the rocky foreground and the wonderful sky make for a very dream-like feel.

Ron,

This is a beautiful image and an excellent use of the near/far composition. The colorful rocks and the foreground IS the story, buy yet the beautiful mountains and sky just add that extra beauty to the scene to make this complete.

A little magenta saturation in the LH clouds is about all I can nitpick on. Otherwise, this belongs in ones portfolio.

Wonderful Ron. My night here was a total bust... but I'm not complaining after Hidden Lake. :) Great meeting you up there, and I've really enjoyed going through your incredible gallery! :) Cheers

Awesome, awesome foreground! I went to Glacier National Park recently but never got to the Two Medicine area. I'm glad you did though because this photo is worth it.

Ron,

I like the colorful rocks in the FG and how they lead in and vanish perfectly into the reflection. I also like how the reflection of the mountains keep the eye contained in the middle and leads to the main peak in the BG. Very nice.

Whoa, awesome foreground. A scroll crop of about 1/2 the sky really plays this up nicely.

Ron - Looks like we may have passed each other in the Prk. I saw that you commented on my Many Glacier image and mentioned the mammatus clouds. This is a gerat shot of Sinopah. I was there around the 15th. Weather didn't really cooperate. I shot from around the corner on the left, but I like your composition much better than mine! :toast:
