Egretta rufescens

I was sitting in a Florida lagoon photographing other birds when this Reddish Egret appeared and hunted, danced, twirled and danced some more. Spent about 20-25 minutes with it.

D200, handheld, f6.3, 1/750, ISO 200, 70-300mm VR at 112mm, 76% of original image, natural light. Larger version provided

As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques. Thank you for looking.

Very nice photo. I like that you were able to shoot at 112mm which included some of the background.

Very nice image quality, and a wonderful demonstration of avian photography with a shorter optic.

Fantastic Image! Reddish Egrets seem to be everywhere in my area! Love the low water angle shot too.
Egret looks a little light to me...maybe darken up the body a little? (IMO)

A very dynamic pose with excellent image quality Mia. I like the effect on the background at 112mm and the intensity of the egret on the potential prey that only it can see is palpable. I also enjoy this shot because it gives me a feel for one of the places you used to shoot that you talk about so often. A very strong image.

I rreally like the active raised-wing pose, accentuated by the splashes and wake around legs. Good indication of habitat too.

Don't usually like shots with shorter lens Mia but this is a beauty. Wonderful image quality and i particularly like the 'bow wave' on the leading leg.

cheers

Beautiful shot, Mia. The shorter focal length gives the image a three dimensional feel. Excellent techs too. :toast:

A little bit late, but just wanted you to know how much I like this photo. I feel like I'm right there in the lagoon with you. Sensational pose captured perfectly. You must miss Florida for opportunities like this, I would.
