Kingfishers' Battle

I took this in May at the photo blind in the Tualatin River NWR in Oregon. I used a Nikon 600mm f/4 AF-S II lens and a Nikon D700 camera. Aperture is f/4 and shutter speed is 1/1000 second. I took a lot of pictures of these two fighting but there were a lot of branches in the way. This photo is the best compromise between interfering branches and action in the battle. I did crop this photo a little but not a lot.

All critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Chad

Great action, Chad. I like the poses here. You don't mention what iso you were at and I don't know the noise characteristics of your camera very well, but if you could have jacked it up, you might have been able to go to a higher f-stop and get a bit more depth. Nice job sneaking between the branches. :toast:

Thanks for the comments. My ISO was 200 which is the default setting for the Nikon D700. In retrospect, I should have cranked up the ISO to get better depth of field, perhaps, or perhaps a faster shutter speed. The D700 has a full frame sensor and its lack of noise is astonishing.
