Orton bells

I spotted this nice bouquet while scouting an area of grassy slopes and conifer woods at the feet of the Monte Bianco in Valle d'Aosta, Italy. Light was nice, as it was filtering through a layer of scattered clouds. In post processing I applied quite some Orton effect to enhance shapes and contrast.

Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.

Techs: Eos 50D, Tamron SP 28-75 f2,8, tripod, no filters, single exposure.

PS: the larger size shows much better details an tones, a click on it is highly recommended. The image is best viewed in a dark background and dim light.

PPS: mods are free to move this to photo art, if they feel it could better fit there

Nice job, Paolo! Intriguing image.
Can you be so kind to tell me something about the "Orton effect", I don't know what it is. Many thanks. Cereia, neh! :wavey:

Tastefully done. Quite a good frame for Ortonization.

Hi Paolo,

This looks as though you found a whole hedge rather than a bouquet :jump:

IMO, it's Floral rather than Photo Art but what do I know?

Certainly a great subject for Ortonizing, and I can how why you recommended viewing the image in a darkened room with dim light. I'll have to try that tonight.

It's electric and wild and appealing.

Mauro, I ran into another very simple source that talks about the Orton effect. Certainly another technique to try.

Glad you posted this Paolo because I think it gives us an opportunity to think about techniques that are certainly applicable to Flora. It helps all of us stretch and grow and recall techniques we've never tried or perhaps only tried once.

Bill, I have a thought. Perhaps, if the interest is there, we could have a Flora Forum in which we could discuss and share ideas. I think that would be cool. What do you guys think?

Long reply, Paolo but I'm really glad you posted this...

Cheers,

Carol

Thanks all for commenting fellows, I'm glad you like it.

I also have a variation with colder tones that I thought I'd post here in attach for comparison. Would love to hear what you folks like the best.

Carol, I think that opening a place for discussion on specific themes is always a good idea, so I vote for it.

Mauro, Ram and Carol have already posted two great links about the Orton technique. Read them through and try it, it can be really fun and rewarding. Stame bin, né!

Beautiful image Paolo. I really like the balance of the blooms in the composition. I prefer the warmer version.

I like Carol's idea for Ortonizing this. If you have LR you could also reduce the clarity slider or with Viveza reduce the structure. Both have a similar effect at least to my eye as Ortonization. You certainly don't need to do anything to this. It's gorgeous as posted.

Very nice and well done. Like the original more. The colors are really rich from the Orton.

Wonderful find, terrific capture and processing... Both versions are good, though the warmer is better for me :toast: :toast:
