Sunset light, Wind River Range, Wyoming. This was another amazing sunset in the Winds. Initially it didn't look like there was going to be much color at sunset, but just before the light faded away the sun made its way through the clouds to create these brilliant colors.

Nikon D80, 12-24 Nikkor Dx lens, polarizer.
5 sec at f/16, ISO 100.

Please view large. As always, your C&C are appreciated.

Scott,
Amazing image indeed. You've got a winner here IMHO. You's done a great job maintaining detail in the shadows and the river adds nice interest, but the sky is the major attraction. Well done. Best Regards.

Beautifully captured. Colors are great. I like the detail you were able to keep in the water.

The sky is incredible. The image overall feels a bit dark on my monitor, but I'm learning this may be the result of the calibration

Beautiful colors Scott, and the comp sets it all up nicely.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Tony, the web version seems to be a bit darker than the original. I will have to take a look and repost a slightly brighter version.

Beautiful light Scott, I like the color of the scene and the level of detail you captured in the rocks.

Here is version 2.0. I brightened the image up a bit and dodged the foreground water. Please let me know if you think this improves the image. Thanks.

Surprised this hasn't received more comments. You've posted some wonderful images from the winds, have me looking forward to my trips down there next year already.

forgot to mention, I like the repost much more.

Strong comp and wonderful color captured here. I particularly enjoy how the fg whitewater lines slope roughly the same as the bg ridgeline... that gives a nice harmony top to bottom. I might prefer blending in the brighter portion of the second post over the original middle ground using the reflected gradient tool with a mask. I like the darker top and fg in the original for the mood. Nice work!

Great shots form the Winds Scott. Nice color in the sky then reflected in the river. Well done.

Scott,
Never count the sun out, there's been several times I thought the show wasn't going to happen or it was over and had to redeploy the equipment in a hurry to catch mother nature thumbing her nose at me. The softness of the motion blur in the fg is not to my taste personally but the exposure control and the sky are fantastic as others have noted and I agree. On the question of the second image I like the mood of the first and better detail of the second so I guess it's a tie.

Sweet! I love the colors and the dark mood of the first image, but the reworked image is a tad better. :toast:
