Chestnut Back Chickadee

Another one from Saturday morning. The plumage of most of the chickadees I saw that morning was pretty matted from foraging in wet leaves. I liked the pose of this guy and the way it mimics the line of elderberries. In retrospect, I should have stopped down another couple of notches to get the fruit sharper.

7D, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black widow on Gitzo legs, f7.1, 1/800, iso 500, Av mode with -2/3 comp to keep from blowing out the whites on the cheek, cropped to 35% of the original. Normal processing in CS4.

I always look forward to your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking.

Great head turn Dennis. He looks very curious about something. Bird is nice and sharp. Love the matching background colors. Very Nice!

My smaller birds have been looking the same way from the pouring rain we've been getting here. I like the whites echoed in bird and branch.

I like the pose and the perch Dennis, nice smooth BG as well. I think you did a fine job with the exposure here too. :toast:

The angle may be a little steep, but it's a nice setting with the bird in an ideal compositional spot in the lower left ROT point. I like.

Looks like this guy just got out of the bath tub! I like the environment. Shooting angle feels a little steep.

Love the comp here Dennis. Great BG and all the colors really make this a treat for the eyes. The detail in the head and eye area on the larger image are lacking a bit, but for 35% this looks really good.

Lots of "stuff" and colors here Dennis but I like it all. Different and interesting.

Nice image of the chickadee, great sharpness and detail and the berries really make this special, they may not be perfectly sharp but they seem to shimmer from the wetness which makes it work for me. Pretty background and great exposure, I find these birds so hard not to blow out their whites.

nice, Dennis. I like the comp, the berries, and the bedraggled look. I've only gotten to see this sp. a couple times and would love to see more. Agree that the angle is a little on the steep side.
