Summer Sparrow

House Sparrows aren’t related to other North American sparrows, and they’re differently shaped. House Sparrows are chunkier, fuller in the chest, with a larger, rounded head, shorter tail, and stouter bill than most American sparrows.
F/9, 1/2000th, ISO 800, Canon 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 lens.
Late afternoon around 6:30 in fading light.

New this was yours right away. ONly nit is not being able to see the head better - Just wish it had turned for you.

Howard, Really nice capture. I like the way you can see the implied motion. Well done. I agree w/ Luke regarding the head but I would still like to have taken this one.

Another tough one Howard. I too would like to see an eye more clearly. Moreover, I find myself wishing the tail and wings were just a bit less blurred. Can't nit too much though, given the difficulty of getting such a small bird in flight.

Cool shot Howard, I like the extended feet in this one. I agree a little more of the eye would have been nice but a neat capture as is. :toast:

Not an easy catch Howard. I especially like the foot position and background. Agree about a different angle on the eye.

Howard,

I like the great background you have in this image, the sparrow stands out well from it and the colors are very complimentary. I like the wing and positions, but I do feel this would have been stronger with a tiny headturn to get some light in the eye.

Good job, Howard. Looks like a real tough shot handled well. Like the wing blur here.
