Smoky mountains [+B/W]

Well, not those smoky mountains...

This is a much wider view of the same mountains in my previous post: the top of Valpiantonetto, a short, steep and narrow valley of the Gran Paradiso NP in Piedmont, Italy, with the green waters of Teleccio lake and the southern range of peaks of the Gran Paradiso massif. Taken around noon on a very hot day at the end of August.

Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.

Techs: Eos 50D, Tamron SP 28-75 f2,8, tripod. Stitched from 6 verticals

Larger file provided, please click it to enjoy much better details and colour nuances

Oh man, this is a beauty. A great combination of colors, textures, and elements. The waterfall really makes this special IMO.

EDIT - Just looked at the B&W. I think I like it just a wee bit more than the color, but it's close. Great tones and range.

What a totally awesome shot Paolo. I agree with Bill, the waterfall does this shot extra justice. Nice work with the vertical pano blend. Looks like a truly amazing area.

The large version is just beautiful Paolo, a lot of details to enjoy. Sunny and fresh, a good example of a great photo taken out of the blue/golden hours.

Fantastic image Paolo! The refreshing detail makes me feel like I am standing there by the lake.

Wonderful shot! There's a lot to enjoy here . . . I really like the clouds and the waterfall, as others have mentioned.

Thanks all for commenting pales, it's always great to read your thoughts and suggestion.
I must say I'm getting a bit bored of the sunrise/sunset cliches. Of course the so called golden hour offers that kind of special light that we all know so well. I love very much that moment of the day when the sun is about to rise, or it has just gone down, and everything is suspended in a certain way, and I will certainly continue to take pictures at this time. However, mid day hours can be as much "golden", if weather helps a bit, and achieving the same kind of appealing and interest with images taken at noon or so can be a nice challenge, and certainly a good exercise.

By the way, I've just finished a b&w conversion and thought I'd share it for comparison. Kinda like it a bit better than the original, though the colours of this place are nothing but wonderful. Would love to hear what your thoughts are about that, thanks!

This is a very nice and interesting shot. I like how you've captured the floating clouds, and that waterfall is great. I think I prefer the color version.

Sweet! I prefer the B&W, but mainly because the sky is a bit dark in the color, due to polarization presumably--you might try lightening the blue a bit. Love the clouds! :wavey:

There are a lot going on that sky, though looks small but that waterfall is the center of interest here. Beautiful shot Paolo.

Beautiful mountain scene! I love clouds and the clouds really make the image for me. Although the B&W is more dramatic looking I think I prefer the color just for the beautiful color of the water in the lake.

That's one "sick" location! I love the "smoke"! Might be a tad over-sharpened? Might just be my moniter.

I'm glad I didn't miss this! Awesome scene, and incredible details. I can't imagine what this will look like printed huge! Great shots can be captured anty time of day. While the black and white is also very good, and slightly more dramatic, I'm a little partial to the color version.
