A Rose + Repost

Was in Seattle last night and saw this rose - nearly perfect form and condition. Happened to have my camera as I was hoping for a blazing sunset ...but that didn't happen. Instead, here is the rose. I really went after a smooth presentation w/o strong details. Using the noise filter, I pushed it to achieve smooth and soft. Then I went light on sharpening..trying to keep the edges clean.

Nikon D300, Zeiss 100mm, cable, tripod, mirror up ..no filters. F22 and about 2 sec.

Ken,

This is really fine. Love the color palette and your processing. Superb presentation of a rose.

Very Nice Ken. I like the treatment here specially the close to blow-out appearance for the inner most petals. The organe-ish pinks then soothe the eyes. Lovely

Hi all, thanks for generous and kind comments. I played w/another shot of same rose...to see how a darker tone with selective bright highlights and my usual sharper details. I think the selecting of highlights might be too far...but, again I like details and sharpness. And you?

Ken, A version in between the two photos might be more like it.

Gorgeous colors here, Ken.
Since you are going for smooth and soft, I would suggest adding a laying and carefully so some light painting so that the clipped petal on the right is not so obvious.

I like what you're working on.

Keep up the good work.

Beautiful glowing rose. I love how the form is emphasized over the detail and thought your method of creating the effect was most interesting. It's a fine result and a frame full of delight.

I lilke the soft presentation Ken, but the center petal edges may be a little hot for my taste. The repost is superb, but I do undetstand you were going for two different objectives. Well done in either case.

Ken:
Kind of interesting to see the difference between the two versions. I like what Carol and Ram is suggesting; a combo of both. Very good capture. :toast:

Ken,

I like both very much but I prefer the second. I like to look at the detail in things and generally equate it with interest. I couldn't resist the second.

Hi Ken. Whereas both images have appeal, I definitely prefer the second. The sharpness and deeper color of the repost grab my attention way more than the other image.

Such a different emotional response to both images. I like both for different reasons. Both are superb images. :toast:
