Is this Pelican contemplation or a mood swing?

Splendid dramatization of an often conventionally captured subject. It really leaps out of the thumbnails!

I like the dark richness of this image. Really brings out the detail-feathers, weathering of the beak.

I love the details...esp the eye...showing the motteling...the light on the top feathers is super. The large version is simply a feast to view. Gotta love that 300mm.

Nice light and color...a bit of a head turn would have made this one way too amazing!

Stunning eye Wayne, and the head feathers are tack sharp. Absolutely no noise in the background. What a unique capture. Love the comp. Cheers.

For me personally having more eye contact would strengthen this already wonderful image.
Well done!

a striking portrait with great details, Wayne. I agree, the only way it could be better is with a bit more of a head turn. gorgeous as is too.

Very nice image. I like the comp and color. They are hard to get good portraits of with the long beak. You did a very nice job.

Wayne, I have absolutely no issue with the angle of the head. The eye seems to be looking forward so the head angle seems right. The detail is fun to see. For me the colors are too intense but obviously I'm the Lone Ranger on that one.

Very intimate - the only nit is that the tip of the bill is cut off.
