A large block of ice is slowly melting away into the Atlantic Ocean at the black beach near the Glacierlake of Jökulsárlón in southern Iceland.

I also posted a b&w version below, personally I like both for very different reasons, I'd love to hear your opinions!

No really - the color version is so, so beautiful, the b&w version just can't do it justice.
Jökulsárlón at its best.

It's interesting that my "horizon" (the portion of the photo that anchors it in reality) in this image is the crystal clear blue underbelly of the iceberg. The heavy magenta cast felt overdone to me until had a chance to balance it against that blue. Was there some hard edged selective brightening of the ice? It stands out so much against its beach surroundings that I can imagine some less knowledgeable viewers questioning the photos authenticity. Anyway, it's beautiful, and my overwhelming preference is for the color version.

The color version is miles ahead Jorne. I imagine you'll get hammered for the magenta tones, but they are matched well to the blue underside if the ice. Nice image throughout.

Thanks guys, the image was shot in the middle of the night (altough night might be off since the sun did not set) with the sun at it's lowest point. I actually did not add a lot of saturation (and reduced it in key parts). Still I found the colour to be quite strong as well, but doable

The ice was lit by some sunrays, those blocks have an amazing quality with the light shining on it. I did not do anything to the ice other then lighten it with TK's actions.

I definitely prefer the color photo. It does look very surreal, almost like you took the ice from one photo and plopped it onto the beach in this one. What really makes it unusual is that the water and clouds are blurred from the long exposure, but the ice is so sharp and detailed.

I like different shades of magenta and blue reflecting off the ice.

Very nice! I like both versions. The magenta cast did throw me at first, but ive 'warmed' up to it  I think the main problem for me is that if i hadnt seen dozens of similar comps and similar subject/location, this would be real cool and original--but since i have seen many others with the solitary ice block and water, this particular block seems to have a little bit less 'character' than some of the others ive seen. It's a phenomena that's been affecting me more lately--like th monkeys on our (NPN) front page--its all becoming a bit too familiar.

The color version is splendid, and the magenta cast of the reflections on the blue is excellent. Very good composition as well ! I really like it.

Quite a striking shot, and just fine as-is. I'm also not a fan of the magenta though, if you are inclined to experiment by altering that.

I prefer the color version because of the blue tones in the ice. That provides a lovely separation between the ice and the background. Also, the black and white version draws too much attention to part of the ice that is visually tangled with the horizon. In the color version, the wonderful blue tones pull attention away from the horizon, and down to the base of the ice. The magenta cast does not bother me because it looks quite realistic.

This is a rather simple scene but for some reason I just cannot pull my eyes away from it. I really like it when a picture can have such a hold over me.

Both work well Jome. I am leaning a little to the color version though. The combination a color works well.

Great choice with the slow-shutter speed. The ice really pops because of it.

Color works for me just because it shows the nice contrast with the white and blue ice......
