Waiting for Mom

Cook Inlet, Alaska

I was surprised at the wide range of coloring on all the cubs and adult bears - from very blonde to almost black. One very dark cub had white ruffs around his ears.
The left cub here had a very light face, back, and chest, but his/hear rump and underside was quite dark.

Excellent poses here Sandy! The composition seems quite well balanced to me and I like the triangular shape the bodies of the bears make and the implied diagonal created by their gaze. The light tone of their fur is close to the background and I wonder if less dof might bring more attention to the subjects. A bit more sharpening on the front bear's head might add a little extra "pop" too. These minor suggestions might only add to an already wonderful image.

Great comp, Sandy, and I love the poses and the soft shaggy look of the fur. Very nicely done.

Clearly you had a wonderful trip! I like this composition. The only tweak I can suggest is to carefully select the eyes (and maybe just around the eyes) with some selecting post processing to add some contrast/brightness/sharpness. Great capture.

Hi Sandy,

Nice shot! I like the general composition and particularly how the cubs seem so relaxed (and how something other than you has clearly captured their attention). While I wouldn't call it a "nit", it is a bit of a shame that the eyes are shaded - I'm in agreement with Lon that selectively brightening up the eye region (just a tad) might improve this already very appealing shot!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
