High Noon Jay

I had spotted a Northern Oriole for the first time two days ago, just out of reach with the 1.4x. So I mounted the 2x extender, but it was quickly gone. It was rather stunning with its bright orange & black colors on a bright sunny day..
Anyway, this Blue Jay flew in close so I grabbed this shot at high noon..11:59 to be exact :)
F/11, 1/500th, ISO 640, Canon 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x ext. No flash. 85% FF

The 300 2.8 plus 2x looks pretty sharp. I am really amazed from my brief work with the 300 2.8 how sharp it is. I really nice profile shot with nice detail Howard. I like the BG too.

Nice head profile Howard. Fairly sharp considering you a 2X on this. Pleasing background and a nice slight headturn toward you. Too bad about the Oriole Howard. That would have been exciting for you. At least you captured a nice backup.

The light does not seem harsh to me despite the time of day. Super details and love the portrait with the slightly open bill. Excellent work Howard!

Great image. There is really nice detail under the chin, given it was noon and no flash. Well done. These birds are very flighty and getting one this sharp is extremely hard. Well done.
