I like the tree and elephant in near silhouette, but the location of the sun seems not the best for the ideal composition. In fact, I think the composition is improved by cropping the sun out entirely. since you were shooting at the wide end of your zoom, I hope you composed some pictures with a longer focal length of the tree and elephant only. I love the hazy line of trees on the background. The curve in the horizon makes it appear that your lens has barrel distortion, a common phenomenon at the wide end of wide-angle zoom lenses. Of course, it can be digitally corrected. Even if that is part of the natural terrain, the picture would look better with a straight horizon.

In terms of mood and atmosphere I really like this. The sun in the shot works well, but the three main visual elements are not ideally distributed throughout the frame. I assume you were shooting from a vehicle, so I would probably have asked the guide to position the car more to the right, so that you would get the tree and the elephant on the left and the sun on the right side of the frame. Hope that makes sense.

i love it! i think everything works well.
i like your choice of unbalance everything on the left and also to give space to the right so that the image (and the elephant) can breathe.

It certainly has nice atmosphere, I seem to agree with Buck and Marsel, actually three main elements in the photo tree, sun and elephant are on the left, making it tilt towards left side, although elephant is central in the frame.
In the given picture, I feel if you crop out the sun and some part on the right (the first bush), you may still get workable frame.

I like this very much as posted. In a perfect world, the sun could be repositioned, but the mood, light and subtle colors make this quite pleasing.

well, I looked at this several times and every time i changed my mind. once i agreed with Buck about cutting out the topmost part to remove the sun from the frame an that's because of what Marcel said about the distribution of the three main subjects. once i agreed totally with Marcel about keeping the sun into the frame but with the "if only the sun was on the right ...",once i thought"what about a bit more saturation in the reds? but there's one common thing: i like this, the feeling of being in a hot place is absolute and it arrives with or without the sun.

Nice mood to this one. Feels hot, still, and dusty. The sun being in the upper right would make for a nice line with the small bushes but would throw the shadow of the tree off the elephant. I like it as posted and the line of flair coming from the sun seems to be shooting directly at the subject and makes the alignment of the sun, tree, and elephant work for me.

I don't know how I missed this one. Beautiful image Ingrid. Absolutely lovely feel to it. Tarangire was the first place I observed elephants. Thanks very much for sharing this beauty.
