Blue-Gray Tanager

Taken this past January in Gamboa, Panama. This is a pretty common backyard bird, especially when fruit is placed at a feeding station. This was an overcast morning, so the colors are pretty mellow and my flash batteries died for fill flash. I wish the body was a little more parallel to the camera, but hopefully that's just a minor thing. Curious to hear thoughts.

It's amazing how pale the birds head is and how dark the eye is. Really gorgeous photo with a nice diagonal perch.

Looks like a beautiful bird. I like the soft colors of the background. It does not overpower the bird. The eye is nice and sharp, but the feathers are not showing as much detail and sharpness as I expect given the eye.

Beautiful bird, I like the soft light, BG and look-back pose.

Great looking bird Bryan. I like the nice even lighting and smooth background, well done. The slight angle of the bird caused the tail to be out of focus but not a big deal. Although I have to knock off one point for that.

Nice job for an overcast morning to get this colorful bird and I think the image looks fine without the fill flash. I have never seen an image of this bird so it is interesting to me, well done.

Bryan, Perfect head turn to accomodate the body angle and I like the consistent lighting on the tanager. I think it's a subtley beautiful bird, well presented.

Really nice shot Bryan, I like the slightly open beak and nice details. Ideally with the bird in this position a bit more depth of field because the tail is pointing at us. :toast:

Bryan,

I think it is a lovely photo as posted. I especially love the soft, natural colors.

Very interesting bird Bryan - those pale blues are most unusual. I like the pose, eye contact and diagonal perch. Nice background too.
