Taken this Spring at the McCall nature preserve near Columbia Gorge. Canon 5DII, 16-35mm, manual blend of two exposures, one for the foreground (f/16 ISO 600 1/40s) and one for the sky (ISO 100 1/200 f/22). I tried to process a fairly natural look, but maybe the colors need a little more pop. Not sure. Thanks so much for looking.

Wow, very nice Chris. I think the processing looks great, color looks fine IMO, as does comp. If I have any nits, the sky appears a tad dark.

This Spring!? Well you found one of the few descent lupine bunches in that area since this year was not nearly as nice as last, so good find. As for the image if your goal is natural then I would say you succeeded in the FG for sure. The sky is close, I may make it a touch lighter to balance with the FG if you can. Nice work regardless.

Chris,

Gorgeous! The lupine are beautiful - great, natural coloration as well.

Might agree about a slight lightening of the sky/clouds, other wise this is simply fantastic.

I was at the McCall about 8 years ago for spring wildflowers. Although it was
veyr pretty, I certainly never came up with anything like this. This is strong
throughout, particularly the foreground. Thanks for sharing, Chris.

Chris,

Wonderful composition and luminance. Colors look very natural and I don't think they need any more pop. Just wondering about the exposures. f/16 1/40 ISO 600 is equivalent to f/16 1/250 at ISO100 so I am a little confused as to why the ISO 600 when you could have just made an adjustment in either the shutter or aperture. The 5DII probably did not add much noise at ISO 600 but just wondering.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll do some experimenting with the sky and see if I can lighten it a bit. As far as the exposure, I may have to double check my numbers, but the general principle was that at ISO 100 f/16 the shutter speed that properly exposed the lupines was too long (it was a very windy day), so by leaving the aperture the same which I like to do when I'm going to blend, a bump up in ISO gave me a quick enough shutter to freeze the flowers when the wind died down a bit.

Sorry Chris, It was late. You are correct. With ISO 100 you would have needed about 1/4 of a second exposure time not the the other way around.

Nice shot Chris. Processing looks great to me. The colors don't need any more pop, they look fantastic. The sunstar effect is pretty awesome, too. Considering the difficult lighting situation you were presented with here I'd say you executed the shot flawlessly.
