BlackCapped Chickadee

Some sun finally coincided with a bit of free time and I managed to get out for the last half hour of light after dinner tonight. This Chickadee was nice enough to cooperate.

The late evening light maxed out the red channel in the brightest areas, but it seemed to be what I saw, so I didn't make any adjustments.

7D, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f6.3, 1/320, iso 500, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Normal processing in CS4, NR with Neat Image. Cropped to 64% of the original. Taken at 6:43 pm today (about 12 minutes before sunset).

I agree, pretty light. I like the intense blue sky in the background as well. Attractive B.C. Chicadee photo.

I've seldom, if ever, seen this species presented in such nice warm light Dennis. I like the effect. Good detail in the blacks without blowing the whites. I like the look of the blues in the background and your composition.

I too found the lighting here to be very attractive, Dennis. You mentioned that the light in the red channel was maxed out in the brightest areas. I tried seeing it using Levels in PS. Some areas of the birds cheek were close to maxing out but all told it looks great to me. Again I find that you we are able to clearly see the chickadee's eye in your image too! :toast:
