Devils Photographer

This was shot at a place known to Sydney photographers (and probably fishermen) as the Devils Cauldron. Its a cavity about 4m deep that almost completely empties and refills on the larger waves bubbling up like a cauldron. It's one of the more exhilarating places to shoot around the coastline here. I quite liked this shot as I felt the photographer and fishermen gave scale and added compositional interest.

D700
16-35mm
f11 1/13sec ISO100
3 stop reverse grad, 2 stop soft grad
Processing - levels, curves TK luminosity and Sat masks (I think I may put this on my sig as its kind of my standard workflow now :) )

I like the action of the water and the silhouette of the photographer. Would be nice if you could have avoided the lens flare, though it's not too bad.

I really like the comp, the water action and where you placed the photographer in the frame...
would try to clone out some of the lens flare (and maybe the people to the right so as to put more emphasis on the lone photographer... if you feel comfortable doing that...)

I quite like the lens flare actually, although the larger spot near the photographer I had thoughts about. I also quite like the two groups of people and felt that they had a feeling of relatedness in the shot with one looking towards the others.

Thanks for the feedback though, the lens flare thing is always going to be a personal choice really.

A really cool shot, and yes the water splash makes a great foreground.

A very nice shot! The water adds a lot of drama in this.
