(c) Winter Wisdom

Another Lynx from the Bavarian forest park, I've posted something similar a whiole ago with an adult and a younger Lynx, this time I opted for a single Lynx portrait.

I liked the way the Lynx was staring, like a wise man contemplating the winter.

Thank you for looking!

Edit: I keep forgetting to apply noise reduction here!

Tech: 7D, 400mm @ f5.6, iso 800 & 1/640th (yes; I could have opted for a slower iso/ss, but I didn't!)

note (c) means this concerns a captive animal!

Jorne, I like how the snow has a pillow look and feel to it and also like how it is still falling. This would make an excellent holiday greeting card!

Hi Jorne,
I always enjoy your Lynx images. This is a beautiful specimen in an appropriate scene. I see several possibilities here. IMO the bottom of the image doesn't hold enough interest to warrant such a large portion of the image even though it enhances the low angle you have. A crop, even as high as just below the "V" in the snow at the bottom of the cat, works better for me. The snow flakes in the air really add to the feel of the season.
Nice work as usual.

Thanks guys!

Neil: originally I used this crop because of the lines in the snow, but I see what you mean. Still not sure which one I like best, thanks for the insight

Very nice image. I love the snow and how you have frozen it in time. I also like the expression and composition that you have captured

Another excellent lynx image. I love the sense of peace the falling snow and the relaxed pose of the cat give to the image. The snow on the coat is also a extra nice touch.

Jorne:
Really enjoyed looking at all your Lynx images eventhough I did not comment in the past. Before reading about Neil's comment I had the same thought about the bottom half. But after looking at this for a while, the white provides a counterpoint for the intense focus in the upper half. Also this crop would be great for advertisers to put their message.

Great pose. I like the falling snow and BG of this one. I agree with Neil's crop suggestion for the bottom of the frame. As posted it gives him the higher perspective but I still get that impression with half the bottom snow removed.

Very nice, Jorne. I have to admit, my very first thought when viewing as a thumbnail is that you could crop some from the bottom, perhaps to a 4x5 ratio.

Great shot! Love the snow on the cat and the look into the distance. Maybe a small crop from the bottom as mentioned. Personal choice, I think.

Hi Jorne,

That lynx has a great, contemplative look and you captured it well. Technically the image looks spot-on - good job on the exposure. When I looked at the thumbnail and standard-size image I thought "too much foreground" for my taste. And, when I looked at larger version I thought "too much foreground"! This is definitely a personal preference issue, but if the image were mine I'd crop off about 25 to 33% off the bottom of the image - the leading line supplied by the foreground doesn't really lead to the right place anyway (i.e., not at the cat's face) and one of the strengths of this image is the beauty of the coat, which would be more obvious if the cat was larger in the frame (as it would be if you cropped off some of the foreground). Great potential here...and darned good as presented!

Cheers...

Brad

I like the image, but think you could crop off some of the FG and have a stronger image. Thanks for sharing.
