Sapphire Lake Sunrise

A beautiful sunrise at Sapphire Lake, White Clouds Wilderness, Idaho. September 2010. For just a few moments the high clouds lit up with some amazing light. I've posted a few other shots from this same stream, but I think I like this one the best. All C&C are appreciated.

Nikon D80, 12-24 Nikkor dx, polarizer.
2 exposure blend, 4 sec and 1/3 sec at f/16, ISO 200.

A beautiful scene Scott. You've managed to include a lot of elements into this comp and it works very well. Nice processing too.

Your processing/blending looks great here Scott, especially for image with such extreme dynamic range. I don't think the top of the sky adds a lot to the image and I'd like to see the mountains a little bigger, so I think a crop down off the top will really work well here. Awesome work of incorpating numerous elements into the scene: stream, lake, mountains, and sky color.

A beautifully peaceful backcountry scene, Scott. I want to stick my toes in that water!

Beautiful light! From the thumbnail and the title I figured this was a shot of just a lake at sunrise, so the stream was a pleasant surprise! Shutter speed seems perfect. No nits from me!

I like the inclusion of the stream in the foreground. The sun peaking over the horizon really sets the mood for the rest of the image.

Well composed. Great sunrise mood. I'm not sure if I agree about cropping from the top since it sort of isolates the deep blue to the left.

Nice image, good blend. Could almost go for dodging the water near the bottom of the frame to lighten it a bit to look more like water.

Scott: I like the gradient of colors in the sky along with the clouds. This inlet stream is a very nice lead in to the scene. Did you camp at this lake? I ask because I camped a couple nights at Island Lake last summer and day hiked to Cove, Sapphire and Cirque Lakes...those lakes are very beautiful!
