Young GBH Portrait

Caught this young GBH thinking about fishing at a local lake not too long ago. It started grunting at the water as if to scare a fish his way, or out of frustration...pretty comical. I liked the markings and new plumage coming in as well as the light. Was wondering if I left enough room in this tight frame?

Doug,

Since this is a portrait I think you did leave enough room in the frame. I like the open bill, the feeling I get of an impending strike by the heron and the light in the heron's eye. Nice details & sharpness.

I think your comp is about perfect for this one Doug, the open beak is what makes this shot for me, well done. :toast:

Doug,
I like the comp as is. I wouldn't change anything about it. Nice feather detail. He looks a bit frustrated with his luck. Love the open beak. Nice job.

Impressive image quality Doug. The slight turn of the head, open beak and stern looking eye gives some insight into his attitude at the time. I do think the portrait could use a little bit more room all around.

For a head shot this is fine with me Doug. Very nice detail and sharpness. Nice light too. Dark BG works for me.
