Every year the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain holds an International Projected Image Exhibition competition. Whilst this image did not medal, it was selected to be a part of their Road Show, which tours all over Britain beginning at the end of this month and ending in early April, 2011.

This was very early in the morning in June and the two young had just finished feeding. She's got them under her wing - I suppose if one of them had shown its head, this might have medalled!

1D MkIV, 500mm, 1/320 @ f5.6, ISO1000, handheld resting on boat transom, overcast early morning - no flash.

Thanks for looking; comments welcome .

KC,
considering the combo 500+2TC and HH on the boat you got an extraordinary shot. Congrats! :toast:

Nice shot KC. Excellent light and eye level presentation. Amaziny how having just the head of a single chick showing probably could have made such a difference. Maybe next time and congrats on your award.

Very nice loon. One of my favorite birds. What an honor to be selected for any thing in the Royal Photographic Society Show.

Hi Kwan - an honour indeed and many congratulations. That must have been a low boat to get such a fantastic angle. Beautifully done!

Sorry, but I made an error looking at the EXIF data! It was shot without any TC. It was the ISO that read 1000, not the lens! My apologies......I've updated the information above.

Killer exposure and I like the angle of the wing concealing the youngster. I wish there were some more room all the way around though.

Wonderful and endearing image KC, even if none of the chicks showed its head. Great angle, comp, colors and eye cotnact.

An amazing shot KC. Love the nice low angle. The birds 'pose' is outstanding.
