Tufa the Road

This recent road trip has been my all time favorite. After driving for about 12 hours on this particular day as we were heading back to Canada we finally arrived at our planned destination. I spent an hour or so on the shores of Mono Lake taking as many shots as I could until there wasn't any light left. (I have to say this is one amazing place). I looked over the images back at the hotel and was very happy with the result and thought I should get up at 5:30 AM to catch some morning shots. When i woke up the next morning my head was just pounding and I almost talked myself out of heading over to the lake. Am I ever glad I decided to go. I was truely blessed to stand before such a scene as the sun began to rise. The intensity of the colour change was really mindnumbing. I only hope I was able to capture that intensity in these images. I'll be posting a handful of images over the next while.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and have a look.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Hi Mark,
BEautiful and unusual photo, I really like the very strange island it gets my attention.
To my eyes the photo seems to fall slightly to the right, maybe just perception?

Just beautiful Mark. I might have tried to set up with the island slightly off to the right, but that's not knowing what you had to deal with to the left.

I love this particular view of the lake and you did a nice job capturing it's beauty.

You should add a trip here in November to your photographic todo list. The skies Mono lake are simply awesome in the winter.

Thanks Ed for that info...I will definitely take that under consideration. It sure was incredible lighting as you'll see with my next post. Minutes after this shot the intenstity of colour pretty well quadrupled. It was amazing.
