Olympus E-3, 300mm x 2.0TC, handheld
f8, 1/250, ISO800

A lucky shot from the deck of our house. There was no time for a tripod. And very little light.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Excellent job—detail, catchlight and focus are great. Overall a tad dark, but due I'm sure to the poor light. I am wondering how it would hold up to some selective brightening to the black to darks.

Jim,

I like the pose of the woodpecker, how even in dim light you were able to get a catchlight and how well the bill stands out against the dark background. You didn't mention using any EV compensation, but in the field I might have tried some or more positive EV comp. I can detect some color noise in the darks of the bird so I think trying to lighten/brighten the darks would increase that without very careful NR.

One thing I especially like is that you left the holes in the back in the frame.

I like this as posted. The overall darkness works for me.

Very pretty. The detail is great for HH and that much lense and TC hanging out.

Just bring up the whites a bit and I think it would work better. Even with the dark background.

The sharpness looks excellent. I think the exposure is fine, I can see a little noise in the blacks but to be expected at that iso with that body I think. :toast:

Excellent sharpness at that SS Jim. I like the dark overall feel and the drilled bark, a very nice capture under difficult conditions. :toast:
