A Close-up of the Svartifoss (Black Falls) in Iceland. This is an amazing little waterfall situated in a basaltrock catherdal (I'll post an overview of this waterfall next week) which crashes down on the rocks below.

This has aspects that I really like, but overall it appears to capture a little too much area (width wise) for my tastes. I would love to see a slightly more intimate view of the center rocks. Exposure looks perfect

I like the different level of transparency and texture that the water provides. Contrast looks perfect.

The black and white conversion is just right and the water motion makes this one quite surreal and dreamy. I would try a crop from the left and a little bit from the right to simplify things. I think it would suit to the fine qualities of the image very well.

Cool! The streaks of water are great. My crop would just take out the one heavy black guy in the llhc.

I really like how the transparency changes throughout this image. The tonal range is excellent.

Incredible detail. I love the glow and the detail behind the falls really adds to the feel of this image.

I don't know Jorne. I like it awfully well the way it is. I think the rocks on the left add a little interest. I guess to each his own.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I played around with several crops but none satisfied completely, and I kind of like the left side. I do have an alternate vertical version, what do you think?

A marvelous photograph!!! I can't decide between the portrait or the landscape. Perhaps seeing them side by side would help. Both are terrific.

Those basalt blocks are incredible. Beautiful image Jorne. I might crop a bit off the left hand side as the one rock in the left lower corner seems to detract from the rest of the image, at least to me. Either way, though this is nice.

Wow! I like this a lot. I also agree that a tighter comp around the center cluster of boulders looks like it could be awesome as well.

Fantastic image, Jorne. I do believe the left boulder provides a good anchor to the rest of the scene. Therefore, I wouldn't crop it. Shutter speed is just perfect, as well as contrast. It has a dreamy feel that I simply love.

Jorne,

Very nice conversion, the rocks showing through the misty falls are a nice touch. I could even see this a a three vertical panel triptych. Lots of wonderful parts in this image to explore although you have centered the main interest the triangular pile of rocks.

I definitely like the vertical image better. The basalt blocks partially masked by the flowing water are a perfect counterplay to the rocks and spray at the bottom. Perfect B&W tones.

Delightful. Particularly the vertical version. A beautiful capture of hard rock and falling water.
