So Many Pumpkins!!!!

'Tis the season, and of course I couldn't resist. I parked my grocery cart beside the gigantic boxes of pumpkins and crossed my fingers that anything frozen wouldn't thaw too badly.

This was shot with a Leica D-Lux 4 using Programmed mode because I wanted the ISO to be as low as possible. ISO 80, f/2, - .3 EV, 125s, 5.1mm

I converted this to Black and White because I wanted the viewer to focus on the pumpkin creases, shapes, stem, shadows, forms, as opposed to the orange color. I suspect that you will see orange just as folks saw red blood in Psycho

Let me know, please, and thanks for viewing....

:wavey:

Good looking conversion Carol. Great textures and interesting shapes. I see silver and black - not orange. Very nicely done. No suggestions.

I love the shadows Carol. The BW conversion is great and I like the toning great image.

Carol, Yes I can see Orange but I cannot say if its my brain playing games with me  . I like those curved lines all over the frame and a sharp area (the top portion of the Pumpkin) for my eye to rest.

I like it that you provide some a big departure from the usual flora stuff  - its a good thing.

Do you plan to shoot these pumpkins a bit wider ?

Carol: About the only thing that would make this better is if the immediate FG was just a touch sharper. The softness there does distract me a bit. OTOH I really like the comp and conversion. Well done.>=))>

Interesting shot Carol. It has a very antique look to it, almost a copper. More dof would be a plus, but I like it very much as is. And I agree with Ram, this a nice departure from all those stuffy old flowers.

Good eye, never known where you'll find your inspiration for your next image. In front of the local grocery store is not the "Normal" place but this image was worth possibly sacrificing the frozen dinners.

Nice light for a grab shot, and the toning makes it anything but an ordinary shot. Very well done to be on the fly!

Superb composition, Carol, and I think conversion to b & w was a great decision. The ISO choice interests me because the only thing I am unsure about is the soft texture of the pumpkins - might grain have been interesting ??? It's a compelling image whatever.

Carol:
Good decision turning this to B&W to show off the lines and contrast. Works really well.
