From my hike at Geln Onoko falls trail near Jim Thorpe, PA on Saturday. I was trying for a different type of frame and thing I found it! What better to frame a waterfall than the natural habitat?

C&C welcome

canon 7d, 24-104L @ 24mm, ISO 200, f22, 0.3 sec., 4 stop NDF. Bright sunshine at mid day! Shot is full frame, as shot except for some minor dodging on a bright spot on the lower log and sharpening for web.

Neven, great that you were trying to find a more compelling way to compose the image. Although the foliage frames the falls well I'm not sure if this works for me. Image has a very ominous and gloomy feel to it. Not sure if that was what you were trying to portray.

Neven,

I think the natural vignetting you found works very well in framing the scene - although it does border on being a little heavy. Perhaps even some slight cropping around the edges to reduce the "weight" of the natural border may help. Great job with the exposure of the falls themselves and you definitely succeeded in isolating these falls with the natural habitat.

The natural framing works well for what you were out to accomplish. For me, it's too dark, and dominates the image. I agree about some cropping. I also agree that the exposure for the waterfall is very good!

Nice water on the falls Neven, but I'd have to agree with the previous two posts regarding the darkness on the edges.

You captured the feel of seeing the first bit of light after leaving a dark forest. Great comp Neven.

Thanks for the nice criticism! I tried a crop as suggested and also bumped the lights in camera raw a bit. The falls definitely pops more, but not sure if the brights now have taken over the picture.
