Roadrunner 2

I'll add a second entry this week. I took this Wednesday afternoon. The light is harsher than I would like, but I didn't expect to see the roadrunner under the flag and just got a couple shots before it moved on.

Hey Rob - This is terrific! The lighting may not be perfect but the bird on the headstone under the flag is great. I think it's a fine example of environmental photojournalism and in keeping with the theme.

You bet! I like this even better than the first, and that's saying something. In fact, the harsh light works for me and complements the comp. I'm truly impressed with how you managed the backlighting.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like this one.

Steve, I figured this was more what you were suggesting. I'd say my on going work is bordering on obsession :), but it has been lots of fun.

Hank, I've seen the solar energy pose a couple times already. Our nights are turning cool, even when the afternoon temps are warm. I'm not sure how much longer they are going to stick around. Reports of roadrunners are common in southern Kansas, and even around here in central Kansas I see several reports each year by birders. They commonly nest on the southern border. At least 2 pairs nested in this county this year, with the second nesting pair discovered after the pair here in the cemetery. I'm betting there is a lot more nesting happening than has been reported.

I think Buck's comment on how this is an "example of environmental photojournalism" is a good reminder, to myself for sure, and perhaps others, that not all EPJ has to be bad. Hank, your weekly themes are providing inspiration, and bring out the good side of EPJ. Thank you.

I find this actually quite touching. RR stopping for just a moment extra in special recognition. Cool photo! Congrats on the EP, Rob.
