Here's a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk I photographed at Ridgefield NWR in Southern Washington last winter. Just a little taken off the left here, cropped to about 85% of FF.

It happened to me again. I wrote a comment then the image disappeared and then it reappeared without my comment. I am guessing you came back to add the info.

Looking at the image makes my feet hurt with him holding onto that thorny perch. I love the headturn which shows off the hooked bill quite nicely. The overall subtle colors work very nicely.

Sorry about that Sally, your comment hadn't been recorded when I deleted the image, the large image wasn't the version I had intended to post, so I deleted it and reposted. Thanks for your comment!

Sweet! Love the awesome detail from the small crop. The feet with the great look at the talons make this one for me.

Wonderful detail and great exposure Nate. I like the arching rosebush perch. The slice of darkness at the top adds a little bit of drama as well. :toast:

Excellent! I've never seen one on a such a small and thorny perch. But as already mentioned, it really let's you appreciate the talons. The colors and sharp detail are just great. :toast:

Thanks for posting this. I was thinking I had a juvenile hawk visiting my patio but wasn't sure what kind it was. Very nice portrait. Great crop. Love the talons.

Great image. I really like the hyper-alert pose. Lots of lovely detail-in the eye and in the feet and talons. BG and perch provide perfect matching colors for the bird.
