Dunnock in snow + repost

I quite like this "high key" look, the mountain in the background was bathed in very bright sunshine while the bird was in diffused light.

My Sony camera is nowhere near top of the range but it handles difficult exposures extremely well, fair play.

The Dunnock is also known as a Hedge Sparrow.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500 EX
1/250th sec
f8
ISO 400
360mm
+1.3 stop exposure compensation
Centre-weighted metering
Tripod
Taken from a nice warm heated hide out in my yard

There seems to be some very nice detail in this bird. Unfortunately, he seems a little flat as presented. I think you could bring the mid-tones up a bit in post processing.

Great image, but it does seem a little flat to me also.

I agree with Angela. This shot has wonderful potential. If you can get a little more zip into the bird, especially in the mid-tones, you'll really have something.

What makes this particularly appealing for me is your position below the sparrow and the interesting compositon, nicely proportioned perch, bird and sky. The snow on the moss is beautiful. Your talent is showing..

Nice work Geoff, looks like some good detail on the bird. On my monitor looks like you could brighten overall, to get the midtones on the bird a tad brighter. Maybe start by pulling the white point across?

Love the setting and comp Geoffrey. Agree about working on the bird a little to try and bring it up a bit.

cheers

That's what I like about this site, everyone is so helpful
I've had another go at this and think it's improved?

Thanks everyone.
Geoff.

The repost does look better I agree as well. The snow is a bit grey in the original now that I revisit it.
