Red Fox

This is the same vixen shown in my previous post. She moved out in some really nice light for this one. When shooting mammals, I always prefer that the animal not look at me. I feel it is more natural.

If possible, please view the larger post for detail.

All comments and critique appreciated.
Thank You.

I like the "laughing" look on this fox. Only nit are the pieces of vegetation emerging from the fox's head.

How can you get a pose in better light? Good capture.

Hi Matt,

Yep, some pretty sweet light. I also normally prefer to not have mammals looking directly at me when I'm shooting them, tho' I wouldn't go so far as to say "always" (in some portrait situations I like strong eye contact). I like this image, but it's a tad too "dead centre" for my taste - if the image were mine I think I would have placed the fox a little lower in the frame to "ground it" a little more. I do find the branches in the background a little distracting, but there's pretty much nothing you could have done to solve that problem (without radically changing your shooting angle, which would - if it were even possible - totally changed the lighting regime).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad

I love the light and that she looks like she's laughing at a joke just told. The purple flowers near her feet add another level of complexity. I really like this image a lot.

Beautiful Matt, especially the light is lovely. I agree it is a bit centered. Further I find the bright stems in the BG a bit unfortunate, but your shallow DOF at least reduces their impact to a minimum.

Very nice light and composition. As mentioned by others, the bright background vegetation was unfortunate.

Nice eye contact and the light really brings out the color of the fox!

Nice looking fox. I like the habitat and the little clump of grass in front of the tail, gives it a little "depth" of being in the surroundings.

Super photo and subject. With such good light you might have shot wide open to soften the background a little more, it won't be a blur but better. She's squinting from looking into the sun, but that's what you get with good light. Awesome photo that I am sure will make an interesting and attractive print. :toast:
