Enchanted Forest

We saw these beautiful red gooseberries from the road above. Eric managed to scale down the boulder strewn slope, and find a place to cross the river. Steve and I didn't manage to find a way across. After wasting about 45 minutes, we just drove up the road and parked, crossed the river on the bridge, and walked back down! Anyway, once I got close to this spot, I realized why Eric was so enthralled with it himself. Anyway, by the time i was set up, it was in the fading light. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts. Large version provided too.

That is so nice, Chris. The pinks really add to this and the aspens make for a very graphic element.

The aspens make for such a nice contrast - both the shape and color. Looks like you had a great trip!

Chris,

What a beautiful little scene. I can certainly understand why this caught your eyes. I think all the elements here are working together including the aspen trunks, the big boulders and the color bushes.

I wasn't there so it's hard to call this in to question, but the color of the bush on the right seems closer to pink or "chartreuse" than red. Maybe it was red at all, but that's my expectation. But since I wasn't there I guess I'll just have to trust you.

No matter though, I still think it's a wonderful, intimate autumn scene.

Hey Lon,
Thanks, Maybe it was my mistake to call it red? I definately remember it was a color that I found uncommon to my experience. Not really like I'm used to seeing with the Yosemite Dogwoods. Someting in between pink and true red I guess. Also, the fact that my camera seems to render things unusually blue in this kind of lower light, made me make a few tweaks to warm the color balance a bit. I think that corrected some of the blues, but also took just a little punch out of the image as well.

Thanks
Chris

Amazing light Chris. Timing is everything - looks like your trek worked out well after all. The comp draws us into this idyllic little place. Nice job!

Love the composition, Chris, and the colors are really nice with the pinks and reds. The large image is outstanding. Can certainly understand pursuing a way to get to this as you guys did.

You know I like this one  My kinda scene exactly Chris. One could call this "chaotic" but of course it is well structured. The bright trunks provide a lot of visual guide and the other elements are well placed too. I like the colors are lot!

Hi Chris,
lot of details to look in this image. The aspens really help in terms of colours and graphical contrast.

It can be pretty darn difficult to obtain a coherent comp from scenes like this, but you did an excellent job - very nicely balanced. The variety of colors, along with the aspens, give this lots of elements to enetertain the viewer.

Very nice comp. I like the overall color balance, leaving some blues in the scene is working very well. I could see being drawn to warm the scene up in post. I really love the graphic, anchor points of the aspen trunks.

Awesome... I was wondering what you guys grabbed from this location. I like what the soft/bluer light has done to this scene. It gives it a very magical look. I'll post up my take from a bit earlier that day, so you can see what I got. Beautiful work, I wouldn't change a thing.

You came away with a sweet comp. I like the way brought the chaos there to something simple as the just what colors where there. :toast:

Now this is not your typical fall foliage scene. I've seen similar colors in berry leaves before, but never found a way to compose them. You too advantage of the aspens and those dark rocks to make a very nice composition.
