Olympus E-3, 300mm x 2.0TC, tripod
f10, 1/80, ISO800

Taken in Panama last winter. Later afternoon, under heavy overcast. I'd been shooting herons closer in when this guy flew up. I failed to dial my f-stop back a bit; I wish I had because it would have blurred the background more.

Cropped by 50%. Selective sharpening.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

What a cool looking bird Jim. I like that pose and perch. It looks like the image quality on the large post may have suffered due to the extreme crop. Thanks for posting this different looking bird.

Nice shot of a cool looking bird. I agree the bird probably would have popped a little more from a more OOF BG but I'm not much bothered by the BG that you have.

A really cool looking bird Jim. The BG is fine as is IMO. The combination of ISO 800 and 50% crop is apparent in the IQ on this shot. Cutting back your f and then dropping the ISO might have helped in that respect.

Nice image Jim, great looking bird, don't mind the BG, though I may try a little noise reduction on the BG.

I think it looks good considering the crop. Maybe a touch more NR in the BG.

Nice image. I think the separation between the bird and the background is fine. It works for me.

I think this shot is quite good for such a large crop. Neat bird. Kind of comical looking. I think he stands out well from the background. I would love to have taken this shot.

Very interesting looking bird Jim. With such a lrge crop detaill is not as sharp as it could be. Nice perch, and a terrific head turn. I might crop a little more from the top because of the distracting brown stuff in the ULC and then remove some from the right to balance it out. Just a thought. Cool bird Jim.

That black and white plumage stands out nicely against the green bg, Jim. Nice image and a sweet pose. :toast:
