Torreys Sunrise

Another "as luck would have it" story. Just happened to plan to be here for this shot for sunrise. Sometimes we are rewarded for our efforts.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

P.S. the foreground was intentionally left dark to hide the beetle kill in the trees.

Wow Morris, looks like you were indeed lucky to plan to be there to see this amazing sight. In other words, you made a lot of your own luck. Too bad about the beetle damage, but who's looking for that when you have such an amazing light show. I think the darkness of the FG looks OK here, since the dark "V" helps us concentrate on the lit-up mountain. Those clouds make a great reflector, and they even left some blue sky just for another color. I think this is great as is, but it would also work well in a more subtle way as a pano with most of the blue sky cropped off. But hey, if you've got it, flaunt it.

That is just insane! What a special moment for you. Your comp works perfectly for it. The silhouttes cradle the peak, and light really nicely. Impressive!

Morris, I like the simple comp with the V silhouetted slope of pines. The light just radiates those eastern slopes.

I summited Torreys but I kick myself for summiting Greys in the same day.

Excellent detail in the snowy mountain. Love the composition - darker fg helps highlight the mountain and beautiful sunrise color. Great pic.

Great light on the clouds and the slopes of the peak.

What a spectacular glow here Morris! I really like the composition with the dark V in the foreground focussing you on the drama behind it. Like Waybe I think this might be even better as a pano crop. :wavey:

This is great, Morris. It pays to make your own luck sometimes. I like the dark V setting off that wonderful light on the mountain. Very nice just as you have it, but I do like Stans crop idea without the blue sky.

A wonderful scene, Morris!! The silhouetted foreground adds a strong element, even if covering up dead trees.

Strong lines and composition Morris. Your processing has been incredible lately. Personally, the orange highlights (in the sky only) look just a little oversaturated for my tastes and everything else is perfect. Fantastic job.

Your images are always top notch Morris and this is no exception. Great light and the slight hint of detail in the hills really works even if you were trying to hide them to a degree. Nice work!
