Yosemite NP CA USA May 2010. Not from any well know spot in the park. I noticed this patch of burned forest contrasted nicely with early morning creamy background.

Settings: Nikon D80, 35mm Nikkor 24-70 2.8, f/8, 1/80s, ISO100

C&C are welcome and appreciated.

I will say, this isn't your typical YNP shot, that's for sure. I'm not sure how effective the burned tress are, and the bottom 1/3 of the image is a little murky to me. Possibly a pano version would work better? I like the dappled light on the background mountains.

This is a very interesting composition. It's not the typical shot for sure. I do wish that the stump snapped tree on the right and the snapped tree on the far left were not part of the composition though. My eye is attracted to these trees, and since they are right on the edge of the photo, it sucks my eye out of the composition. When I covered them up with my fingers, the composition regained a sense of harmony.

Jim,

I really like the juxtaposition between the burned forest and the dappled light in the valley's beyond. This looks like the area along 120 just near the Foresta road turn off and just before you turn to head towards the valley.

I'd like to echo Ben's thoughts about the two edges. I think a crop of the sides and even from the top to keep the formatting would reveal an even better juxtaposition than you already have here. Overall though, I think you have a nice image and a unique take-away from Yosemite.
