Soft Focus Dahlia

non 1DsIII, 85mm f/1.2L, 1/40sec @ f/1.2

The 85 f/1.2 has such a smooth out of focus quality that it creates a dreamy, smooth background. This was shot wide open and you can see that very little is in sharp focus.

A different take on one of our most enjoyable subjects.

Comments and critiques appreciated.

David,
I can't think of a better word for this than "dreamy." Looking at it, I feel kind of like I just woke up, and am rubbing my eyes, enjoying the light, even though I can't focus on details yet. It's an enjoyable feeling.

David, I'm going to take your word for it that something is in sharp focus. It all looks delightfully soft to me. I like your approach; at first I thought it was a lensbaby composition.

If the flower or another still exists, I would encourage you to shoot more with different focal points.

Especially like the lighting and the colors.

Cheers,

Carol

Beautiful image. Love the softness and the color palette David. Also the mood of the image. No suggestions whatsoever.

Beautiful capture David, as mentioned on PNWNP, I really like the colors and "dreamy" mood this bloom gives. Well done!

Agree with the rest about the dreamy feel which is usually the case with that magical F/1.2 lens. Two small petal edges get the benefit of sharp focus. Nice colors also.

David:
Yes - soft and dreamy. Nice to see a F1.2 lens in action; have only shot with F1.8 lens myself.
