Guillemot in a rainy day

One of the many photographic chances I had last June in Scotland . This was taken on island of May ( not far from Edinburgh ) in the only rainy day I had in a week ( ). However, the atmosphere of the place combined with the rain and the explosion of flowers created images of great beauty.
Canon 350 D , Sigma 400 apo , ISO 400 , F 7.1 , 1/800.
PS CS2 , little crop, routine sharpening.
C and C always welcome.
Giorgio

Really like the setting, pose and falling rain Giorgio. Exposure looks good on the bird and those bright belly whites on the fish aren't blown. Some light in the eye would have been nice but impossible I suspect in these conditions. Interesting image!

I like this shot. The pose is great, as is the composition. The bird looks a bit dark to me but I'm on my laptop right now, which may be the cause.

Nice action shot especially with the rain drops and the fish in the bill. I've never seen this species in person (aside from an Arctic Race which is nearly pure white) but I'd bump the saturation those blacks as they look a little washed out. It may be that the plumage is a little more brown (which is seen in other auk species) in which case I'd bump the contrast instead of black saturation.

I very nice composition! The angle of the rock is a great design element. Having dark above and light below is a flip-flop on the norm. The image appears slightly desaturated to me. Some halos visible front of upper breast and at back of the secondaries. The fish in the beak is pretty cool.

Nice pose captured Giorgio, does seem a little dark in the mitones on my monitor, perhaps brighten a little, if you can without brightening the deepest shadows.

Giorgio

I thought the image had been converted to B & W when I viewed the thumbnail, but looking at the 720 pixel version the shades of brown do show. I like the pose, the fish in the bill, the raised wings and the visible raindrop streaks. I do find myself wishing for a catchlight but I imagine that would have been very difficult given the light.

Fantastic bird! A species (and a place) I would like to see!
I like the soft toned colors, they render nicely an atmospheric mood. Nice touch those drops of rain! :toast:
