A shot from late in march. Some of you have seen this before...

This was a pretty cool evening, literally. I put the climbing skins on my skis and started the long climb towards the peak. As i left the forest i quickly became aware of the wind. It was furious! It came right down the mountain with full force...straight in my face. I struggled for about an hour climbing with a damn hurricane in my face.

I reached the area i had in mind. Despite a clear blue sky, snow was everywhere. The whole mountain was a white monster. Finally!! I knew that i had the chance...finally i had the chance to get the wintershot of my dreams. I spent a few hours on the mountain looking for compositions and openings with regards to the wind. I promise you..this was NOT an easy shot.

This is my favourite from the trip. If i were to choose 1 pic from my portfolio that i was really happy with...this is it. This is a shot that defines me and my photographic taste more than any other shots. Like my close friend Håkon said...screw the aurora borealis. This is the shit...I managed to get the sweeping snow just as i wanted it. The location is stunning, with a fantastic view and the light was magical.

The downside; 10 seconds before i shot this one, 2 of my lee-filters blew out of my hand and within two seconds they were long gone. The edge you see here is followed by a dramatic drop. I watched my filters fly like two birds over that edge... I`m just glad i saved my 0.9 filter, since thats the one i use 90% of the time.

But i honestly...it was worth it.

Hope you like it...

Have a fantastic week everyone!

-Arild-

Pretty wild! Reminds me a bit of Marc A's 'pummeled-in-the-face-by-spendrift' shots
Great detail in the snow! Thanks for sharing. :wavey:

I could look at this picture for hours! it is quite simply perfect!
And yeah, as I've said before, who needs Aruroras when you get stuff like this! Man, I am already looking forward to the snow again!!

sweet, atmospheric image. really conveys the mood of a winterstorm. what are these "snow-pillows" a couple meters ahead?
tough shot to take. my only nit would be the visible houses in the valley that give the sense of "not soooo" wild place, after all.

Boy, I love this one! The blown off snow is certainly the main feature here, but I also love the great mix of yellows and blues. Great composition and fantastic details, a true eyecatcher.

Gorgeous colours the yellow and blue palette work very well together and the mood is glorious. Its undeniably a lovely shot. That said for my own personal preferences I find the depth of blue in the sky a little too much for my eyes mainly because you are looking into the sunlight and the windblown snow would tend to dilute the sky colour considerably more. In other words I might back off the blue/cyan sat in the sky and the moderate vignetting at the corners. Then for me it would be a perfect winter image. I would be dead chuffed with the result though.

Whoa, this is superb!! What a great action landscape. Beautiful texture, color, and light. You really did good on this one! Sorry about the two lost filters, that's painful on the wallet!

Fantastic Arild. That's a wonderful combination of elements, and wonderfully captured (well worth the two filters IMHO).

This certainly doesn't look like it was an easy shot to get! Blowing snow is tough to be in, let alone photograph in. Nice job hanging in there and not only managing to take a photo, but a great one. The light is absolutely gorgeous and the misty effect created by the blowing snow makes this special.

2 filters is a modest trade for your best shot. I can see why you like it so much: it drips with motion and dynamism; the colors are dreamy; the foreground lines lead to the sun; and it makes me feel like I'm there.

Minor nit but I would consider dodging the dark sky in the URC so that the gradient isn't as strong.

Awesome shot! :toast: :toast:

wow, man, this is fantastic! unlike so many hard-to-get shots, on this one you can tell it took a hell of alot of work because the image conveys the dramatic conditions! I tend to agree w/ Ian about the deep blue and the vignetting, and I kinda wish the sunstar was a little prettier, or not there at all, but those don't take away from the fact that this is a great shot! :toast:

This is definitely your element, Arild. While I don't think I could survive a single hike with you, I really get the sense that you know your way around this landscape and know how the light happens here. It's a beautiful image that captures the spirit of the moment perfectly.

Wow, that's pretty impressive Arild! Conditions, landscape and light line up perfectly to create a unqiue atmosphere.
