Olympus E-500, 14-54mm at 54mm, handheld
f8, /1640, ISO200

The rusting remains of the 1907 Council City and Solomon Railroad, 40 miles east of Nome, Alaska on the Seward Peninsula. in 2005, a severe winter storm tore the walkway and viewing platform from its footings, and jammed it up against the train. The rusting and rotting remains continue to sink into the boggy terrain. The Solomon River estuary is in the background.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

I've always loved the prospect of this train in the tundra as "testimony" to past and future follies. But this view including the walkway is certainly the most effective I've seen. Talk about superposing the new and the old!

It's incredible how many things man has left to rot out in nature. I'm no longer surprised when I find a car deep in the woods which is sad. I guess "out of site, out of mind" applies all too often.

Jim, It's so sad what we do to our environment and in this case, I'm sure folks somewhere along the line simply said, "It was cost too much to remove it; let it remain!"

A testimony to the power of Nature. In the end she usually wins. Fabulous shot, Jim; and congratulations on the EP for it.
