The colorful background is exceptionally nice. There is quite a bit of space for such a small bird but the background is so beautiful it warrants it. Fine pose as well. I like the slightly open beak.

Nice overall comp Scott. FG and BG are very nice. BG is a bit noisy in the larger version. What crop is this, the bird seems to lack some detail suggesting a larger crop.

Scott: Great pose with this little guy. Love the open beak singing pose. Looking at the larger version there is a bit of noise in the background that could easily be cleaned up with any of the noise reduction programs. For my tastes, the amount of space on the top is just a bit much. Looks like you did very well getting the bird sharp with manual focus (I'm assuming that since you had the 1.4x on the 400 f/5.6 and lose autofocus with the 7D with that combo).

I saw this in the Bird Forum and was glad you posted it here. This is a wonderful shot with gorgeous lighting. I agree with the crop suggestions and noise reduction, but those are easy fixes.

Nice Scott. My first thoughts have already been echoed by others. Crop some more off the top, clean up the BG and its a very pretty photo.

Scott,
Love the light and the bird's pose. I agree with the suggestion to use some NR on the background and to crop a little bit from the top of the frame. In the field I probably would have reduced the ISO as it looks like you had plenty of light and that may have given you more visible details.

Thank you all for your responses. Your comments are well taken. I had put the TC on and put the camera on a tripod before this guy showed up so I no longer needed ISO800. Thanks again.
