Yellowstone last summer.
This fellow is a mess - torn up face (both sides) and blinded in the left eye from a previous battle.
This time, the ranger said he had killed one of twin cubs, and the momma grizz was none too happy..

500mm
1/80 sec, f/4
Mode: Av
Metering: Multi-segment
Exp comp: -2/3
ISO: 320
AF mode: AF-C

Full frame - just too close for a 500 mm

Looks like ol' Scarface. His tussle occurred a few years ago up on Dunraven somewhere. I still have yet to see this guy!

Nicely done Sandy and great that you posted the background story! If this were a crop I'd recommend giving a little more in the direction he's looking but that would be about it. Thanks for sharing.

He does look like someone who just got an ***whuppin'. The bloody wounds look just right, visible but not overdone.

Hi Sandy, your story is captivating and supports this image well and makes it stronger. The detail on the bear looks excellent. As for processing, I would try to tone down the bright FG and perhaps the BG a little. My main suggestion however relates to the framing; as is it looks a bit awkward to me. Without knowing what is outside the frame I would say the subject and its position suit a horizontal framing better than a vertical one. This would include the entire bear and leave space to the left for it to 'look into'. If it would have been facing you than vertical would have been the way to go.

The beat up appearance really makes this an engrossing capture. The attitude and pose and blood are fine enhancements. My wish would also be for an alternate framing, as Vincent suggests, enough to not have part of him clipped by the frame.

Good pictuure and story, if would of been nice to have more room or a horizontal perspective but that might have presented other problems, way to go.
