I'm guessing that there isn't anyone viewing this who doesn't immediately know exactly where this is, even if you've never been there.
Conditions weren't ideal yesterday at the Subway. It was suppose to be mostly sunny. But it turned out to be mostly high clouds, stealing the golden reflected light which is so vital to photograph the Subway in its full glory. But I made the best of it, shooting mostly just the pools. There was quite a crowd there yesterday too. I actually had to basically stand in line to get this shot. Another photographer had set up at this vantage point, and didn't budge for over an hour.
As I was hiking up the Left Fork yesterday, a photographer was shooting a small cascade just off the trail. I kind of snuck up from behind, not wanting to disturb him as I passed. However, I think I startled him somewhat. When he turned around and saw me, I was more surprised when he asked "Are you Jim?" I then recognized him. It was Guy Tal (former ES&S Gallery moderator and current Digital Imaging Forum moderator). I had met him and spent a little time with him when we both lived in the Salt Lake City area for awhile back in 2002. Still, I was more than surprised that he almost immediately recognized me, especially after more than eight years.

It does not surprise me Guy remembered. I swear he has a photographic memory. I have hiked with him and he knows the regular and Latin name of everything you see and can tell you the history and geology of the area as well. His knowledge and photography are both amazing.
But, I like the composition and color pallette. Very nicely done.
I actually like this take on the Subway... very refreshing to see something a bit different and well executed. Strong comp with nice lines and earthen colors throughout. I can't think of anything I would change here... nice work!
